THAKURGAON: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the responsibility of appointing advisers lies solely with the Chief Adviser, thus the BNP has no input on this matter. Fakhrul emphasized the Chief Adviser’s competence, stating that he is capable of appointing anyone he deems qualified. This statement was made in response to a journalist’s question at Fakhrul’s residence in the Kalibari area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mirza Fakhrul advised against appointing controversial figures as advisers and stressed the importance of avoiding discrimination in these appointments. He added that any mistakes in appointments should be rectified. Fakhrul also mentioned a conspiracy being plotted by the leader of the previous autocratic regime from India, suggesting that the Indian government aims to undermine the successes of the mass movement. He urged vigilance against such actions.
In response to another query, the BNP Secretary General acknowledged the rising prices of esse
ntial goods, which have become unaffordable for many. He advocated for the interim government to implement necessary economic reforms alongside political changes. Fakhrul dismissed the idea of proportional representation in parliament and encouraged party members to remain patient, allowing the interim government sufficient time to prepare for elections. He cautioned against expecting immediate reforms, stating that the comprehensive changes required cannot be achieved in a short time span.
Fakhrul also clarified that it is not the interim government’s responsibility to carry out all reforms, as this should be the role of the next parliament. Earlier, he laid the foundation for the new office of the Thakurgaon District BNP, replacing the previous one that was burned by Awami League supporters during the mass uprising on August 4. The event was attended by BNP Thakurgaon district general secretary Mirza Faysal Amin, former parliament member Zahidur Rahman, joint general secretary Paygam Ali, Poura BNP preside
nt Sharif Hossain, and Thakurgaon Sadar Thana unit BNP president Abdul Hamid.
