Dhaka: Agricultural adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today sought Turkish support for the country's agriculture sector, emphasizing the potential for big companies to invest in Bangladesh's evolving agriculture logistics and processing sector. The appeal for support was made during a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkey to Bangladesh, Ramis Sen, at the adviser's ministry office, as stated in a press release. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted that Bangladesh currently imports agricultural machinery from various sources, including China, and suggested that Turkey could invest in this sector. He pointed out that establishing factories in Bangladesh would be beneficial for the sector. Discussions during the meeting also covered topics such as agricultural mechanization, export of agricultural products, and high-yielding cotton cultivation and research. Ramis Sen underscored the strong Bangladesh-Turkey relationship and noted Turkey's role as a supplie r of textile machinery and chemicals to Bangladesh. He expressed Turkey's willingness to collaborate in Bangladesh's agricultural field, leveraging Turkey's expertise as one of the world's leading cotton producers. The ambassador mentioned Turkey's cooperation in establishing laboratories for cotton development in Bangladesh and the development of high-yielding cotton varieties. The envoy further remarked on the modern agricultural system's reliance on machinery and expressed Turkey's interest in supporting Bangladesh if desired. Additionally, the adviser brought attention to the import of fruits and vegetables from Bangladesh, seeking the ambassador's consideration. Senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture were present during the meeting.
