Dhaka: Road Transport, Bridges, Railways and Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam announced today that adequate fuel supply will be ensured for public transport starting March 15. This assurance came during his visit to Kamalapur Railway Station on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister mentioned that the energy minister has confirmed that there will be no increase in fuel oil prices, thereby eliminating the need to raise public transport fares. The minister also addressed the issue of online advance train ticket sales, which began on March 3. Despite nearly 3.7 million people attempting to buy tickets online, only around 36,000 tickets were successfully sold, reflecting the railway’s current capacity.

Shaikh Rabiul Alam explained that once a ticket is booked, passengers are given a window of five to 15 minutes to complete the payment process. This often results in tickets being temporarily reserved, causing delays for others trying to purchase. To accommodate the increased demand during Eid, additional coaches and special trains have been arranged. “Currently, about 124 coaches have been added. About 14 more coaches have been introduced on metre gauge lines and about five pairs of special trains have been introduced on broad gauge lines,” he stated.

Regarding security measures, the minister assured that alongside railway police, regular police, highway police, naval police, and other law enforcement agencies are coordinating efforts to facilitate a smooth Eid journey. He acknowledged the possibility of unexpected accidents or temporary disruptions during the Eid travel period but emphasized that the administration is prepared to address such situations swiftly. He appealed to passengers to remain calm and cooperate with authorities in times of crisis.
