Mymensingh: An activist of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Nahian Robin, was fatally attacked by unidentified individuals on Shilashi Mazar Road in Gafargaon upazila as he was returning home after celebrating his birthday with friends early Tuesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased, identified as 27-year-old Nahian Robin, was the son of Mofazzal Hossain from Shilashi village under Gafargaon municipality. He was associated with a faction of the BCL led by local Jubo League leader Tajmul. Robin, the only son of his parents, had been celebrating his birthday on Monday night with friends. After the celebration, he and a friend were returning home on a motorcycle around 12:45 am.
Police and local sources report that upon reaching the Shilashi Mazar Road area, a group of five to six masked attackers intercepted Robin’s motorcycle. The assailants, who had reportedly been waiting, attacked Robin, leaving him critically injured, and then fled the scene. Locals quickly transported him to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex and subsequently to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
