Chattogram: Finance and Planning Minister and BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the importance of public participation in achieving the vision of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman for Bangladesh. He highlighted that active citizen involvement is essential in realizing the ideals and aspirations that Ziaur Rahman held for the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Amir Khasru made these remarks during a food distribution program at the Kazir Deuri intersection near the Chattogram Circuit House, commemorating the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam. The event was organized to provide aid to the poor, destitute, and passersby, underscoring the need for social welfare and community involvement.
Amir Khasru reflected on Ziaur Rahman’s legacy, noting the significance of the Chattogram Circuit House as the site of his assassination. Despite his untimely death, Khasru asserted that Ziaur Rahman’s ideals and philosophy remain intact, particularly his introduction of multi-party democracy as a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s political history.
The BNP leader called on party members to adhere to Ziaur Rahman’s principles and prioritize public service. He stated that the BNP’s greatest strength lies in the people, and their needs and expectations should always be at the forefront of political endeavors. Khasru urged politicians to remain connected with ordinary citizens and to fulfill their expectations through dedicated governance.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, who presided over the program, echoed Khasru’s sentiments by advocating support for disadvantaged communities. He emphasized the necessity of close engagement with the masses to build the Bangladesh envisioned by Ziaur Rahman.
Amir Khasru further noted that no single political party can achieve meaningful change alone, stressing the importance of collective effort and collaboration across different societal sectors to establish a prosperous, democratic, and welfare-oriented Bangladesh.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain praised Ziaur Rahman as an exceptional leader whose declaration of independence during the 1971 Liberation War and his battlefield participation inspired the nation. He highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s leadership during a period of national uncertainty following 1975, where his vision for a united and prosperous Bangladesh guided his efforts towards national unity.
The event was attended by BNP leaders, activists, representatives from various social groups, and members of underprivileged communities. It concluded with the distribution of food items to the beneficiaries by the chief guest and the mayor.
