St. John's:Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir on Monday joined Commonwealth Foreign Ministers and Heads of Delegation to assess the progress of Commonwealth bodies and forums and to guide the organization's future plans. Kobir led the Bangladesh delegation at the pre-CHOGM Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting held at the American University of Antigua in St. John's, Antigua and Barbuda.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Acting Foreign Minister arrived in St. John's on Sunday evening to lead the Bangladesh delegation at the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), themed "Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth." He is scheduled to participate in high-level executive sessions and Heads of Government meetings. Additionally, Kobir will hold a series of bilateral meetings during the event.

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar is also attending the CHOGM, representing India, though it remains unconfirmed if a meeting between the two ministers will occur on the sidelines. The meeting's focus is on enhancing partnerships among member countries, promoting sustainable investments, and addressing common challenges such as climate resilience, trade, and sustainable development.

The Commonwealth, comprising 56 member countries, provides a platform for dialogue and decision-making. Since its inception in 1971, the CHOGM has been a venue for leaders to address shared issues and foster cooperation. Kobir’s participation at the CHOGM is seen as an opportunity for Bangladesh to strengthen diplomatic ties and engage in discussions on mutual interests with other Commonwealth nations.
