Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 on Tuesday night: detained here the main accused truck driver who killed a police constable by recklessly driving his truck in Kuratali area under Khilkhet police station of Dhaka district. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, truck driver Ripon Mian, 22, son of late Nuruzzaman of village Ujit Dhoronibari in Sadar upazila of Gaibandha, was arrested from village Joydev Kagojipara in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur, as per a press release issued here tonight. Driver constable Raihan Sarkar and constable Liaqat Ali were seriously injured when the truck hit the rear of a Bangladesh Police vehicle in Kuratali area. The incident occurred while the driver was recklessly driving from 300 feet on the Kuratali road on October 26 last. The police officer on duty immediately transported the injured constables to the emergency department of Kurmitola General Hospital, where driver constable Raihan Sarkar was declared dead at 1am by the attending doctor. Following the incident, the d uty police officer filed a case against the unidentified truck driver at Khilkhet police station. During the investigation, the name of Ripon Mian emerged as the driver involved in the incident. Based on specific secret information, a raiding team of the Crime Prevention Specialised Company of RAB-13 conducted an operation at Joydev Kagojipara village, successfully apprehending Ripon Mian at 8pm on Tuesday. The press release further stated that the detained truck driver has been handed over to the concerned police station for subsequent legal proceedings.
