Dhaka:Teachers, researchers, and students at 76 public and private universities will gain access to over 30,000 e-books and e-journals from seven international institutions through a new agreement aimed at broadening access to global academic resources.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) project and the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) signed the agreement on Thursday at the University Grants Commission (UGC) meeting room in Dhaka. The event was held under the title "E-Books for UGC Digital Library," with BdREN Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Tawrit and HEAT Project Director Asaduzzaman signing the agreement in the presence of UGC Chairman Mamun Ahmed.
The agreement enables academics and students to access e-books, e-journals, and other research materials from the seven participating institutions. The UGC chairman emphasized that the materials are aligned with universities' needs and the country's priority sectors, facilitating easier access for teachers and researchers to international resources.
Mamun Ahmed highlighted the importance of universities enhancing their use of e-resources to improve education and research quality. He noted ongoing initiatives to expand high-speed WiFi and broadband internet, develop an e-resource sharing system, and connect expatriate academics with Bangladeshi universities through digital platforms.
The UGC is also taking steps to transform the country's universities into fully digital campuses, aiming to strengthen digital connections among local and international institutions.
