ACC to Sue Ex-State Minister Zahid Ahsan Russel on Graft Charges

Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against former State Minister for Youth and Sports and ex-MP from Gazipur-2 constituency, Md Zahid Ahsan Russel, on charges of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain disclosed this development during a media briefing. The ACC investigation revealed that Russel possessed movable and immovable assets worth over Taka 5.74 crore, while only having income sources accounting for over Tk 2.8 crore. The investigation further determined that Russel accumulated over Tk 03.65 crore beyond his known income sources.



Additionally, Russel has been implicated in suspicious and illegal transactions through five bank accounts, involving an amount of Tk 17 crore, 50 lakh, 65 thousand, and 824. These transactions are reportedly inconsistent with his known sources of income.



Furthermore, the ACC investigators discovered Tk 48.25 lakh in his bank accounts, lacking legal support from known income sources. The investigation concluded that these assets were acquired through criminal misconduct, abuse of power, and dishonest means.
