Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into corruption allegations concerning the transfer, recruitment, and promotion activities associated with former Adviser to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department, Md Aktarul Islam, revealed this development during a regular media briefing at the ACC headquarters. Alongside Asif Mahmud, allegations have also been leveled against Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam, Joint Secretary Shaikh Mohammad Jobayed Hossain, and Deputy Secretary Md Masum Ahmed.
The allegations suggest that approximately Taka 76 lakh was misappropriated by annulling the current-charge assignments of 38 upazila youth development officers and subsequently issuing new posting orders. Further allegations include corruption involving Taka 1.5 crore for the promotion of 150 assistant upazila youth development officers, and Taka 2 crore for securing their preferred postings post-promotion.
According to ACC documents, a syndicate involving multiple officials from the Department of Youth Development is implicated in a range of irregularities, from transfers and recruitment to promotion processes, as well as tender manipulation and procurement corruption. The accused are also reported to have been living in luxury, funded by illicit gains.
To address these allegations, the ACC has established a four-member team led by ACC Deputy Director Md Zahid Kalam. The team comprises Assistant Director Md Nasrullah Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director Imran Akon, and Deputy Assistant Director Roman Uddin.
