Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has served notices to 17 senior officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), demanding the submission of their wealth statements. The action is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that these officials have acquired wealth beyond their known sources of income.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC Director General (Prevention) Md Akhter Hossain revealed this information during a media briefing at the commission's headquarters. The notices were issued under section 26(1) of the ACC Act-2004 and section-17 of the Anti-Corruption Commission Rules-2007, requiring the officials to submit their wealth statements using the commission's prescribed form.
The DG further explained that an inquiry indicated these officials have accumulated wealth, either in their own names or in the names of others on their behalf, which does not align with their known legal sources of income. The list of officials includes high-ranking members such as Md Lutful Azim and AKM Badiul Alam, as well as several commissioners and additional commissioners across various departments within the NBR.
The ACC's decision to scrutinize these officials underscores its commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability within public institutions.
