Jhalakathi: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated legal proceedings against 11 police officers, including four inspectors, on charges of embezzling Tk 3.94 crore through the creation of fraudulent ration cards at the police ration centre in Jhalakathi Police Lines. The case was filed by Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain from ACC’s Pirojpur Integrated District Office on Thursday afternoon.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the case statement indicates that the accused officers devised 252 fake ration cards to illicitly withdraw ration goods from the police ration centre between the years 2013 and December 2021. This fraudulent activity resulted in the misappropriation of a total of Tk 3.94 crore.

The individuals implicated in this case include former mess manager Md Alauddin, police inspectors Arif Mahmud, Md Al Mamun, Md Rezaul Karim, and Kazi Raziul Zaman. Additionally, constables Md Atiur Rahman, Md Saiful Islam, and Mehedi Hasan, along with office assistant Md Toufiq Elahi, storekeeper Md Zahir Uddin, and sales assistant Syed Jasim Uddin have been named as accused.

ACC official Zakir Hossain emphasized that the accused, during their tenure in government positions, embezzled funds by fraudulently acquiring ration goods through the use of forged ration cards. Hossain further mentioned that should the ongoing investigation uncover any additional individuals involved, they will also be implicated in the case.

Jhalakathi Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman stated that the officers under accusation are currently stationed in various districts. He assured that the police department is prepared to take appropriate actions in compliance with established rules if the allegations are substantiated.
