Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) today filed a case against three engineers from the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and a contractor, accusing them of embezzling Taka 1.22 crore from a primary school building construction project in Gabtoli.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Department of the ACC, Md Tanzir Ahmed, stated that the case was filed by Swapon Kumar Ray, Assistant Director of the ACC Integrated Dhaka-1 office. The accused include Mohammad Bachhu Miah, Executive Engineer of the LGED; Md Saber Ali, Senior Assistant Engineer; Md Shams Javed, Deputy Assistant Engineer; and the project’s contractor, Abu Sayeed Khan.

The ACC revealed that the accused conspired to withdraw all the construction bills by submitting false statements and fake documents. Reports from the Public Works Department indicated that while the estimated budget for the construction was Taka 2.45 crore, the accused paid Taka 3.67 crore to the contractor, resulting in the misappropriation of Taka 1.22 crore from the project.
