Kushtia:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against former Kushtia-4 Member of Parliament (MP) Abdur Rouf and his wife, Jannatun Nahar, for allegedly acquiring assets that exceed their known sources of income.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the cases were lodged at the ACC's Integrated District Office in Kushtia. The First Information Report (FIR) accuses Abdur Rouf of accumulating assets valued at 2,65,10,605 taka, which are disproportionate to his declared income. The investigation revealed that he possesses assets worth 2,61,80,692 taka in his name and those of his dependents. His liabilities, including loans, amount to 23,31,712 taka, with family expenses, tax payments, and other expenditures totaling 66,27,453 taka, against a verifiable income of 39,65,828 taka.

Jannatun Nahar is also accused of holding assets worth 1,39,99,292 taka that are inconsistent with her known income. The FIR indicates that her total assets, including family expenses and tax payments, amount to 1,94,64,292 taka, whereas her verifiable income is 54,65,000 taka.

The FIR further alleges that Abdur Rouf abused his position during his tenure as an MP to facilitate asset accumulation in his wife's name through bribery and corruption. As a result, charges have been filed against Jannatun Nahar under section 27(1) of the ACC Act, 2004, and against Abdur Rouf under section 109 of the Penal Code.

The ACC's case statement mentions that the investigation covered data on assets, income, and expenditures from 1985 to August 26, 2025, with the headquarters approving the case filing on October 13. The statement also noted that any additional assets or individuals discovered during the ongoing investigation will be integrated into the case.
