Chattogram: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated legal proceedings against former Chattogram-4 constituency lawmaker Didarul Alam and his spouse, Ismat Ara Begum, on allegations of power misuse, misconduct, and accumulating wealth beyond their disclosed income sources.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhter Hossain informed journalists that Didarul Alam is accused of obtaining and holding illicit assets and properties valued at approximately Taka 13.82 crore through the misuse of power and criminal misconduct. Investigations revealed that Didar deposited Taka 475.98 crore across 20 bank accounts and withdrew Taka 472.90 crore, while failing to disclose the income source for transactions amounting to Taka 948.88 crore.
It is further alleged that Ismat Ara Begum, with her husband's assistance, unlawfully acquired and held wealth worth about Taka 1.47 crore by exploiting power. The ACC's case against the couple highlights a significant effort to address corruption and uphold accountability in public service.
