Kurigram:The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against four food officials for allegedly embezzling government food grains worth over Taka 2 crore from the Kurigram Sadar food warehouse.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accused individuals include Md. Sharif Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of the Sadar food warehouse, Md. Halal Uddin, Assistant Sub-Food Inspector, Md. Halimur Rahman, Upazila Food Controller, and Mohammad Hamidul Haque, District Food Controller of Kurigram. The ACC's First Information Report (FIR) claims that these officials colluded to embezzle food grains valued at Taka 2,01,75,352 by manipulating records related to the storage and procurement of government food grains.
The FIR further reveals that during Sharif Ahmed's tenure as the Officer-in-Charge, a stock of 119 metric tons of rice, not reflected in the official records, was discovered, valued at Taka 69,39,959. An ACC enforcement team inspection on January 11 at the 'Shishu Niketan' and 'Khalilganj' blocks of the Kurigram Sadar food warehouse identified a shortfall of 42.205 metric tons of rice between the recorded and actual stock.
Additionally, the records indicated the procurement of 711 metric tons of paddy, yet 50 metric tons were missing from the warehouse, with no evidence to support the procurement and storage of the remaining 471 metric tons. The charges against the accused are filed under the relevant sections of the Penal Code and the Anti-Corruption Act.
