Khulna: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested Abu Bakkar alias Badsha, 38, an absconding accused in the murder case of householder Daniul Islam, 56, of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur, from Khulna. The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued at 2:30 pm today by Additional Superintendent of Police Biplob Kumar Goswami, Senior Assistant Director (Public Relations) of RAB-13, Dinajpur camp.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a joint team of RAB-13 Dinajpur CPC-1 and RAB-6 Khulna Camp conducted a raid Friday night and arrested Abu Bakkar from Sathi Begum’s tea shop at the toll plaza of Rupsha Bridge under Rupsha Police Station in Khulna district. The arrested accused, Abu Bakkar, is the son of Motaleb Sheikh of Utkul village in Sadar upazila of Bagerhat district.
RAB sources revealed that on December 12, 2025, Daniul Islam had dinner and went to sleep at his residence in Chowpukuria village of Birganj upazila. The following morning around 10 am, his sister Nur Jahan Begum and her husband Rafiqul Islam came to the house and found Daniul Islam lying dead with his throat slit. Following the incident, the wife of the deceased filed a murder case against unknown persons with Birganj Police Station on December 13, 2025.
Since the filing of the case, RAB had been conducting a shadow investigation into the murder. Acting on secret information, RAB members managed to trace and arrest the absconding accused on the night of January 16. The arrested accused was handed over to Birganj Police Station at around 2 pm today. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Birganj Police Station, Inspector Md. Saiful Islam, stated that the accused would be produced before the Dinajpur Senior Judicial Magistrate Court by Saturday evening.
