A court here today remanded former Additional Superintendent of Police Abdullahil Kafi on an eight-day remand on charges of abduction and extortion. Investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector of Hazaribagh police station M Abul Kalam Azad sought a ten-day remand for the sake of proper investigation. While defendant's attorney pleaded for bail before the court. Following the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akhtaruzzaman scrapped the bail plea and passed the order. Other accused of the case are: former IGP Benazir Ahmed, the then Hazaribagh Thana OC Ikram Ali Mia, police officer Maruf Hossain Sardar, and 10-12 unknown police officials. According to the case, Kafi, the then additional deputy commissioner of Dhanmondi Zone of Police abducted plaintiff Engineer Arif Mainuddin on February 17, 2019. Kafi and his accomplices confined the victim at an unknown place, tortured him and extracted a hefty ransom by blackmailing his family, the documents added.
