Dhaka: The government has appointed Muhammad Abdul Muhith, Rector of the Foreign Service Academy, as Bangladesh’s next High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification on August 24 confirming his two-year contractual appointment.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Muhith is a career diplomat and multilateral practitioner, bringing over three decades of experience with postings in New York, Vienna, Washington, DC, and several key Middle Eastern and European capitals. His diplomatic career has primarily focused on UN governance, sustainable development, peacebuilding, and institutional reform, with a wealth of experience in multilateral diplomacy and international negotiations.
Muhith has worked amid a global ‘polycrisis’, characterized by climate change, geopolitical fragmentation, protracted conflicts, and rapid technological disruption, including the rise of artificial intelligence. Throughout his career, he has consistently aimed to advance Bangladesh’s national interests through principled, consensus-oriented diplomacy and multilateral engagement. Previously, he served as Bangladesh’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
