Abahani Starts Second-Leg of BPL with Emphatic Win

Cumilla: Midfielder Enamul Islam Gazi scored a brace as Abahani Limited Dhaka came from behind, defeating Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club 6-1 in the second-leg of Bashundhara Group Bangladesh Premier League football held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, apart from Gazi’s two goals, Mohammad Ridoy, Mohammad Ibrahim, Jafar Iqbal, and Mirajul Islam each contributed a goal, while forward Sayed Hossen Sayem scored the lone goal for Fakirerpool. The match was locked at a 1-1 draw at halftime. Sayem opened the scoring for Fakirerpool in the 15th minute, and Ridoy equalized for Abahani in the 40th minute.



After the break, Abahani Limited took the lead when Gazi scored in the 54th minute and again in the 60th minute. Ibrahim extended Abahani’s lead with the fourth goal in the 76th minute, Jafar Iqbal made it 5-1 in the 86th minute, and Mirajul Islam sealed the victory with a sixth goal in the 90+1st minute.



Abahani dominated the proceedings, especially in the second half, securing a deserved victory while Fakirerpool struggled after their initial goal. With this win, Abahani’s points tally improved to 23, three points behind league leaders Mohammedan, from ten matches. Fakirerpool remained in eighth position with nine points from the same number of matches.



In the first-leg, Abahani Limited had also defeated Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club 2-0 at Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur. After the first round, the league will take a recess for the national team’s camp, with the second round of the second-leg resuming on April 11 after Eid ul-Fitr.
