Khulna: A devastating fire broke out in a makeshift Eid market at Picture Palace intersection in Khulna, gutting at least 44 shops, including garments, cookeries, and cosmetics, early today. The fire originated from a shop around 5:40 AM and quickly spread to neighboring shops in the market, as reported by fire service officials.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, upon receiving information about the fire, nine firefighting units from different stations in the city rushed to the scene. The teams managed to control the blaze after one and a half hours of efforts. The affected shops included those selling cosmetics, clothes, shoes, bags, and other products, as noted by a fire service official.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Kotwali police station, Hawladar Sanowar Hossain Masum, stated that they visited the scene. However, it remains unclear whether the incident was a result of an accident or sabotage. The OC further mentioned that the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in this fire incident.
