Jamaat Chief Urges National Unity to Uphold Spirit of November 7

Dhaka:Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has called for national unity to establish democracy, justice, and people's rights, emphasizing that the spirit of November 7 symbolizes resistance against injustice, autocracy, and authoritarian rule.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Dr Shafiqur Rahman stated that those who ignore people's expectations and rights will not be forgiven by history. He made these remarks during a discussion organized by Jamaat's Dhaka north city unit at Al-Falah auditorium in the capital.

Dr Shafiqur highlighted the events of November 7, 1975, which followed political instability and resentment over one-party rule and the deprivation of people's rights. He recalled the day when soldiers freed Ziaur Rahman from captivity, and people expressed their solidarity with the uprising through slogans of 'Allahu Akbar'.

Furthermore, he urged for the recognition of all contributions to the Liberation War, advocating that its leadership and achievements should not be seen as the exclusive property of any individual or political party.

Referring to contemporary politics, Dr Shafiqur called on the government to respect the referendum verdict and implement the July Charter, cautioning against a return to authoritarianism. He also criticized the cancellation of 20 ordinances issued by the interim government and alleged partisan appointments to significant institutions.

The meeting was chaired by Dhaka north city Jamaat Ameer Mohammad Selim Uddin.
