Sylhet:Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam's participation in the remainder of the second Test against West Indies is uncertain following an ankle injury sustained during fielding on Day 2 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shadman twisted his left ankle while diving to prevent a boundary during the West Indies innings. He was in considerable pain and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after receiving initial treatment.
Bangladesh team physiotherapist Bayjedul Islam confirmed that the injury was being assessed and that Shadman would undergo an MRI scan to determine its severity. "What happened to Shadman is an ankle twist in his left ankle. It is currently under observation. We will send him for an MRI scan," Bayjedul stated.
Shadman's availability for batting remains uncertain until the medical team receives the MRI report. The scan is expected to provide a clearer picture of the extent of the injury and the time he may need to recover.
Shadman's injury is a significant concern for Bangladesh, especially after his remarkable performance in the first Test in Mirpur, where he scored a century in the opening innings against West Indies. He made 101 runs, playing a key role in Bangladesh's batting effort, although the hosts eventually suffered an eight-wicket defeat.
Bangladesh are trailing 1-0 in the two-match series and need a victory in the Sylhet Test to avoid a series whitewash.
