Sylhet:Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud claimed an impressive 6-90, enabling Bangladesh to mount a strong comeback in the second and final cricket Test against West Indies at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Hasan's exceptional bowling performance helped Bangladesh dismiss West Indies for 356, thwarting the visitors' attempt for a larger total. Despite this, Bangladesh's top order experienced another collapse, a recurring issue for the team. Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy stabilized the innings, bringing Bangladesh to 85-3 before poor light conditions led to an early close of play.
Nayeem Hasan, stepping in as an opener due to Shadman Islam's ankle injury, was dismissed for 5 by Jayden Seales, caught by Brandon King. Justin Greaves ended Tanzid Hasan Tamim's innings at 16 with a catch by debutant Kevin Wickham. Shamar Joseph bowled Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 18, leaving Bangladesh at 51-3. Rahim and Hridoy then managed to hold off the West Indies bowlers until play was halted.
West Indies began the day at 235-4 and seemed on the verge of dominating the match. However, Hasan's double strike, including dismissing Amir Jangoo for 133 and West Indies captain Roston Chase for a duck in consecutive deliveries, shifted the momentum. Although Hasan's hat-trick attempt was overturned after a review, he continued to challenge the visitors, ultimately dismissing Joshua Bishop and achieving his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
Justin Greaves reached a half-century, helping West Indies surpass 300 runs, but was eventually dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Hasan secured his second six-wicket haul in Test cricket by removing Shamar Joseph, and Miraz ended the West Indies innings by dismissing Jayden Seales.
