Sylhet:Bangladesh ended the second day of the second Test against the West Indies at 88 for three, following a remarkable bowling performance by Hasan Mahmud, who took six wickets to dismiss the visitors for 356 at the Sylhet International Stadium.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud's six-wicket haul was instrumental in curtailing the West Indies' innings. His exceptional performance included dismissing centurion Amir Jangoo for 133 and West Indies captain Roston Chase in consecutive deliveries. Hasan also achieved the unique feat of being the first Bangladesh pacer to claim a Test wicket via stumping.
Bangladesh's innings saw opener Nayeem Hasan, traditionally an off-spinner, stepping in as an opener due to Shadman Islam's injury. Nayeem was dismissed for five runs, edging Jayden Seales to Brandon King. Tanzid Hasan added 16 runs before being caught by Kevin Wickham off Justin Greaves. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto contributed 18 runs before being bowled by Shamar Joseph, leaving Bangladesh at 51 for three.
Towhid Hridoy and Mushfiqur Rahim steadied the innings with an unbroken partnership of 37 runs, finishing the day unbeaten on 29 and 19, respectively. Shadman Islam, who sprained his ankle earlier in the day, was under medical observation and set to undergo an MRI scan.
West Indies' innings concluded with a last-wicket stand of 33 runs between Jomel Warrican, who remained not out on 27, and Jayden Seales. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the final wicket. Taskin Ahmed and Miraz claimed two wickets each, while Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan went without wickets.
