Sylhet:Amir Jangoo's impressive unbeaten 111, alongside Kevin Wickham's debut 61, helped the West Indies recover from an early collapse to reach 235 for four against Bangladesh. The first day of the second Test at the Sylhet International Stadium concluded early due to bad light, with only 70 overs played.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the West Indies, leading the two-match series 1-0, opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, they faced a tough start under cloudy skies, losing three wickets for just 27 runs in the initial nine overs. Taskin Ahmed, back in the team in place of Shoriful Islam, dismissed Brandon King for nine, while Hasan Mahmud claimed Kavem Hodge for one. Taskin also trapped Joshua Da Silva lbw for 12.
Jangoo and Wickham then steadied the innings with a 131-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Wickham, making his Test debut, scored 61 off 145 balls before being bowled by Hasan Mahmud. Jangoo survived a dropped catch by Hasan and went on to score his second Test century, comprising 11 fours and two sixes.
At the close of play, Justin Greaves was batting on 35, having contributed to an unbroken 77-run partnership with Jangoo. Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud both finished the day with two wickets each, but Bangladesh's spinners, including Mehidy Hasan Miraz, failed to take a wicket.
The West Indies' decision to bat first proved challenging as Bangladesh's bowlers dominated early on, but Jangoo and Wickham's resilience helped the visitors recover.
