Manikganj Court Sentences Five to Death, Eight to Life Imprisonment in Triple Murder Case

Manikganj:A Manikganj court on Thursday sentenced five individuals to death and eight others to life imprisonment in connection with the murder of three people over a land dispute in 2016. The verdict was delivered by Manikganj District and Sessions Judge SKM Tofayel Hasan.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the individuals sentenced to death are Jiyer Uddin, Zahidul Islam, Abdur Rashid, Jashim, and Siddik Mia, all hailing from Gobindal village in the Singair upazila. Those receiving life sentences include Zahir Uddin, Azizul, Ujjal, Shamsul Haque, Salauddin, Mazed Mia, Manan, and Swapan.

The court also imposed various jail terms on seven additional accused under a different section of the case. The charges stem from a prolonged dispute over land ownership between Aziz Mollah and his cousins, Karim Mollah and Tetul Mollah. This enmity led supporters of Karim and Tetul to fatally stab Aziz and two others.

Farida Akter, the wife of Aziz Mollah, filed the case against twenty-four individuals at the Singair Police Station. After reviewing the case records and witness testimonies, the court acquitted four individuals due to insufficient evidence against them.
