Dhaka:Education, Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon has expressed optimism that multifaceted cooperation and the exchange of expertise in education and technology will further enhance the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and China.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister noted that support from the Chinese government could open new avenues for modernizing Bangladesh's education system, starting from the primary level, which would aid in developing a skilled workforce. The remarks were made during an event at Shamsul Haque Khan School and College, where smart classroom grants were distributed as part of the 'Lighting up the Future' initiative.
Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, along with other dignitaries, attended the event. Milon highlighted the historical relations between Bangladesh and China, crediting late President Ziaur Rahman with laying the foundation for their friendship. He emphasized that cooperation in education and technology would further consolidate bilateral ties.
The minister underscored the significance of several memorandums of understanding signed by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his visit to China, aimed at promoting cooperation in various sectors, including education. The 'Beijing Agreement' has already initiated extensive collaboration in technical education and skills development.
Chinese educational support includes the introduction of curricula, laboratories, instructors, and certification systems at nine polytechnic institutes in Bangladesh. Additionally, Chinese language courses have been introduced in approximately 50 universities across the country. Milon noted that China is the only country to support primary education improvement, with plans to establish smart classrooms and laboratories in primary schools starting next year.
Liu Haixing announced the gifting of two smart classrooms equipped with Huawei technology to the institution, reflecting the Chinese people's deep affection for Bangladesh. He expressed hope that these facilities would provide students with greater digital access and opportunities, further cementing the historic friendship between the two nations. Liu also invited the school's teachers and students to visit China to experience Chinese hospitality firsthand.
Under China's educational support programme, 28 categories of modern equipment and educational materials were donated to the institution, further strengthening Bangladesh-China educational collaboration.
