Dhaka:Bangladesh is expected to experience one to two cyclones in November, as forecasted by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. The department's monthly long-range weather forecast indicates that two to three low-pressure systems may develop over the Bay of Bengal, with one or two potentially intensifying into cyclones. Additionally, the country is likely to experience below-normal rainfall throughout the month.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the forecast was revealed during a meeting of the Special Committee on Long-Range Weather Forecasting, held on November 1 at the Storm Warning Centre in Agargaon, Dhaka. The forecast also predicts a gradual decrease in day and night temperatures, with light to moderate fog occurring in some regions, especially in river basins, from late night to morning.
The forecast details potential rainfall variations across different divisions. For instance, Dhaka Division might receive between 15 and 25 millimetres of rainfall, slightly below the normal average of 26 millimetres. Other divisions such as Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Barishal are expected to receive varying amounts of rainfall, with Chattogram Division likely to experience the highest rainfall, ranging from 35 to 40 millimetres. In contrast, Rangpur Division may see the least rainfall, between 4 and 8 millimetres.
The department also noted that depressions formed over the Bay of Bengal in October, with one intensifying into a very severe cyclonic storm named 'Arnab,' which crossed the coast of Andhra Pradesh, India, on October 28. Moreover, last month, Sylhet recorded the country's highest temperature of 37.8 degrees Celsius on October 17, while the lowest temperature of 15.4 degrees Celsius was noted in Tetulia on October 27.
