Dhaka:The High Court has issued show-cause notices to 11 individuals, including three practicing lawyers, for filing multiple bail applications against a single lower court order in the Saiful murder case under Mugda Police Station, while concealing relevant information.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the court directed the individuals to explain within 15 days why action should not be taken against them. Additionally, the court barred the three lawyers from practicing in the High Court Division for 15 days. The order was passed by a bench comprising Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Md Zakir Hossain.
The show-cause notices were served to three lawyers, five accused in the murder case, and three alleged intermediaries. The lawyers named are Advocate Anna Khanam, Advocate S M Abdul Baten Sakil, and Advocate Rahim Uddin. The court also instructed the five accused not to file any bail applications before any court until the rule is disposed of.
Assistant Attorney General Imdadul Hanif stated that there is no provision for filing multiple separate applications before different High Court benches challenging the same lower court order on behalf of the same accused. The court noticed during a hearing that three separate applications had been filed challenging the same order rejecting bail for the accused. These applications were filed through three different lawyers and were listed on the cause lists of different High Court benches for a considerable period.
The court subsequently consolidated the applications and heard them together as the first item on the supplementary cause list on Wednesday. The hearing revealed that all three applications sought bail for the same five accused and challenged the same lower court order rejecting their bail pleas.
