Joypurhat:A court in Joypurhat has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife following a family dispute in Akkelpur upazila. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday by Judge Md Hasibul Haque of the Joypurhat Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convict, Sirajul Islam Sheikh alias Lalu, was also fined Tk 20,000. Should he fail to pay the fine, he will face an additional year in prison. Sirajul, the son of the late Abdus Sattar Sheikh from Gudumba village, was found guilty of killing his wife, Panna Bibi, during a domestic altercation.
The prosecution detailed how Sirajul and Panna, who married in 2010, frequently quarreled due to their childlessness. On the night of March 7, 2023, the tensions culminated in Sirajul strangling Panna with a rope and slitting her throat. The police discovered Panna's body following the incident, and her father subsequently filed a case with the Akkelpur Police Station.
