Dhaka:Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, stated that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz hinges on the United States lifting its naval blockade against Iran, ensuring no further attacks on Iranian territory, and meeting other conditions set by Tehran.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the ambassador made these remarks during a briefing on the Middle East situation at his residence in Dhaka. He accused the United States and Israel of launching surprise attacks that resulted in the death of Iran's supreme leader and numerous senior officials, as well as thousands of civilians. These events, he explained, occurred amid ongoing negotiations mediated by Oman, leading Iran to retaliate against all US bases in the region.
The ambassador emphasized Iran's stance against war and violence, highlighting the nation's cultural heritage as a land of poets and its lack of historical aggression against other nations. However, he warned that Iran would respond proportionately to any new attacks, including possible nuclear threats, referencing the US's previous use of nuclear weapons.
Addressing the movement of Bangladeshi ships through the Strait of Hormuz, Jahanabadi deferred details to the Bangladesh government but assured that he had communicated with Tehran about ensuring the safe passage of these vessels. Additionally, he clarified that Iran did not perceive any agreements among Muslim countries, such as the Mecca agreement, as being against Iran, advocating instead for regional security through cooperation without foreign involvement.
Regarding ongoing conflicts, the ambassador attributed the issues between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi movement to Saudi foreign policy, while affirming Iran's political and moral support for groups opposing the US and Israel, including the Houthis and Hezbollah.
