Kalkini:Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain conducted a surprise visit to the Kalkini Upazila 50-bed Health Complex, resulting in the transfer of two nurses due to alleged negligence of duty.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during his inspection, Minister Husain found the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer absent at the scheduled time. Following the visit, he announced that actions would be taken against the absent officer and several physicians for tardiness.

Minister Sakhawat criticized the past 17-year rule of the Awami League government, claiming that public funds were misappropriated, adversely affecting the health sector. He noted shortages in manpower, vaccines, and medicines during that period.

He further stated that steps are being taken to enhance the outsourcing system at hospitals and to gradually increase manpower. These measures aim to mitigate corruption and optimize the use of the limited budget. Regarding the issue of broker syndicates in hospitals, he instructed deputy commissioners to take necessary actions.

Additionally, Minister Sakhawat emphasized that no new private hospitals or clinics would be permitted within one kilometer of government hospitals. He mentioned that inspections have taken place at various institutions with directives to close those with irregularities.

The minister's subsequent inspection included the 250-bed District Hospital in Madaripur, accompanied by Madaripur-2 constituency lawmaker Md Jahandar Ali Miah, Deputy Commissioner Morzina Akter, District Police Superintendent Md Fazle Elahi, and concerned hospital officials.
