Rajshahi:Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have decided to lower the minimum GPA requirements for first-year undergraduate admission tests for students in the Humanities and Science groups. This decision comes in response to the comparatively poor results of this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Belal Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, announced the decision following a meeting of the admission test committee. The meeting concluded that relaxing the GPA requirements would help ensure that prospective students do not face unnecessary hurdles due to this year's exam outcomes.
Under the new preliminary guidelines, Humanities students must achieve a minimum GPA of 3.00 in both their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and HSC exams, including the fourth subject, with a total GPA of 6.50 across both examinations. Previously, the requirement was a total GPA of 7.00. For Science students, the new requirement is a minimum GPA of 3.50 separately in SSC and HSC, with a total GPA of 7.00, down from the previous requirement of 7.50.
A decision regarding the Commerce group students' eligibility has not been finalized, but there is potential for a similar relaxation of requirements. The admission tests for the 2026-2027 academic year are set to begin on January 8, 2027, with the 'B' unit under the Faculty of Business Studies. Subsequent tests will be held on January 9 for the 'C' unit under the Faculty of Science and on January 16 for the 'A' unit under the Faculty of Humanities. Online applications for these tests will open on November 12 and close on November 27.
