Baghdad:Beijing Dozens of robots faced a challenging test of endurance as they raced up more than 3,000 steps on China's renowned Mount Tai. The event, held on Monday, required the robots to carry delicate items such as eggs and watermelons, showcasing their capacity to endure real-world conditions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the race took place on Mount Tai, the tallest peak in China's Shandong province and a site of great historical and mythological significance. The event, known as the World Mountain Robot Challenge, was organized by the state-run China Media Group and featured a 3.9-kilometer course with over 600 meters of ascent.
The race proved difficult for some participants, with one humanoid robot collapsing on the cobbled path and another falling down a flight of stairs. Engineers were quick to assist these struggling machines. Meanwhile, a canine robot from Beijing Lingyi Technology won the four-legged speed category by completing the course in 43 minutes and 41 seconds, a significant feat compared to the two hours it typically takes tourists to finish the same route.
In addition to the speed categories, the competition included a shorter race for humanoid robots, won by the Beijing-based team Zhishen Lingyue in 27 minutes and 26 seconds. The rugged terrain of Mount Tai served as a "natural extreme testing ground," according to local media, offering valuable training for robots intended for practical, real-world applications. Cash prizes were awarded to winners across various categories, including the fastest robots and the best load-carrying machines.
