Dhaka:Prime Minister's Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapon today emphasized the need to halt the exploitation of religious beliefs for political gain, urging for an end to conflicts fueled by such practices.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Swapon advocated for an environment of mutual respect, tolerance, and harmony during his address as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting titled "What to Do to Promote Religious Freedom and Harmony" at the BDS auditorium.
Swapon highlighted the suffering of ordinary people when conflicts arise from religious beliefs, noting that politicians who use religion as a means to an end often benefit more than those affected. He underscored the importance of mutual cooperation and dialogue in fostering religious freedom and harmony.
He further stated that achieving a democratic and inclusive society requires religious freedom and mutual harmony. Swapon called upon the state, administration, political leaders, civil society, and religious leaders to collaborate in ensuring that every citizen, irrespective of religion or caste, can freely practice their faith.
