Cox's Bazar:The fire caused by a gas blowout at a deep well in Chhota Inani, Cox's Bazar, may take up to 15 days to subside, according to Petrobangla. The incident occurred on October 27 during drilling operations at a depth of approximately 1,000 feet near the Chhota Inani Bridge in the Jaliapalong Union of Ukhiya Upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from Petrobangla on Sunday stated that two geologists from the Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) have been deployed to monitor the situation. They are currently in Cox's Bazar overseeing developments.
Experts have advised allowing the gas to escape freely to prevent the fire from spreading. It is anticipated that the blaze will diminish gradually over the next 15 days. If the gas flow does not decrease within this timeframe, the expert team is prepared to implement alternative measures, including firefighting operations and steps to halt the flow.
Public access within a 100-meter radius of the well has been prohibited as a precautionary measure. Local authorities have also implemented necessary steps to maintain law and order. Petrobangla, BAPEX, and the local administration are jointly monitoring the situation around the clock.
Geological and 2D seismic surveys are currently being conducted to assess potential gas reserves in the surrounding area. Petrobangla has urged the public to remain calm, stay cautious, and cooperate with the authorities.
