Chattogram:Two bakeries in Chattogram city have been fined a total of Taka 55,000 for producing and selling products without approval from the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and for unauthorized use of the BSTI certification mark on their packaging.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fines were imposed during a mobile court operation led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Izaharul Islam in the Chawkbazar area. Field Officer (CM) Sandipan Bhattacharya and Inspector (Metrology) Sayeed Ahmed Talukdar from the BSTI Chattogram Divisional Office acted as prosecutors during the operation.
The court found that one bakery was selling biscuits, cakes, and sweets without a valid BSTI Certification Mark (CM) license, and was displaying the BSTI mark on its packaging without authorization. As a result, the owner was fined Taka 15,000 under Section 30 of the BSTI Act, 2018.

Following the operation, both establishments were instructed to promptly obtain the necessary BSTI CM licenses for their products and registration certificates for their packaged goods.
