Dhaka:Workers from several garment factories in the Mirpur area of the capital staged a blockade at the Mirpur-10 intersection on Sunday morning, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. The demonstration resulted in a major traffic disruption on several connecting roads.

According to United News of Bangladesh, hundreds of workers gathered at the intersection in the morning, effectively blocking it around 900am. This caused a halt in vehicular movement on roads connecting Mirpur-11 with Agargaon and Mirpur-2 with Mirpur-13.

A senior female officer from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Traffic Division confirmed that traffic had been suspended since 900am due to the blockade. The situation remained unchanged when the report was filed at approximately 1125am. However, authorities had engaged in discussions with the workers' leaders and anticipated the blockade would soon be lifted.

The protest follows previous blockades by garment workers in Mirpur, which lasted around five hours each on October 29 and the preceding Saturday, where they also demanded a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000. Subsequent to the Saturday blockade, some workers resorted to vandalizing several garment factories and shopping malls.
