Dhaka:Bangladesh and Denmark have engaged in discussions to deepen bilateral investment cooperation in areas such as sustainable infrastructure, energy, and environmentally friendly industrialization. This development was highlighted during a meeting between Ashik Chowdhury, Chairman of Invest Bangladesh Authority, and Christian Brix Møller, the Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh, at the Invest Bangladesh office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting underscored the potential of the Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) and explored strategies to expedite the Laldiya Container Terminal project in Chattogram, in line with an agreement signed with Denmark's APM Terminals. A proposal was put forward to establish a joint working team to speed up the project, with both parties emphasizing the need for effective communication and coordination.
The discussions further explored Danish expertise and investment opportunities in Bangladesh's energy sector, as well as potential investments in Swarnadwip. Invest Bangladesh invited Danish investors to consider opportunities in unused land and industrial assets belonging to various state-run enterprises, with a focus on establishing new industries or optimizing existing assets, especially where sugar mills and other industrial facilities currently or previously operated.
Food processing was identified as a promising field for bilateral cooperation. Dr. Julia Moin, Director General (Joint Secretary) of Investment Development-1 at Invest Bangladesh, highlighted the potential of food processing industries in the northern region of Bangladesh. She discussed the feasibility of developing cold storage infrastructure and producing beverages and other food products from seasonal agricultural produce, which could serve domestic needs and offer export opportunities.
Both Bangladesh and Denmark affirmed their commitment to maintaining regular communication and continuing discussions to advance investment cooperation in these sectors.
