Dhaka:Prime Minister's Adviser for Education and Primary and Mass Education, Mahdi Amin, announced that the government has moved away from the practice of artificially inflating pass rates and GPA-5 achievers for the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams, ensuring a more genuine assessment of student merit.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin revealed that students who failed in one or two subjects would have the opportunity to retake their exams within a month. Additionally, a comprehensive re-evaluation process for answer scripts, modeled after the SSC examination system, has been introduced.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Ministry of Education's conference room, where Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon officially unveiled the exam results. Mahdi Amin emphasized the government's firm stance against question paper leaks and highlighted the use of CCTV surveillance to ensure a positive examination environment.
The adviser stressed that objective assessment of answer scripts is being implemented following the Prime Minister's directives, focusing on genuine merit assessment and maintaining the integrity of the evaluation process. Mahdi Amin also noted the importance of preventing academic year loss by conducting re-examinations promptly.
Addressing parents and teachers, Mahdi Amin underscored that HSC results are not the ultimate measure of success and highlighted the significance of mental development and confidence-building in students. The government aims to support students' full potential development through modern technical education, vocational courses, and language training, extending beyond traditional career paths.
The event was attended by Gias Uddin Rimon, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister; Keramat Ali, Acting Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division; education board chairmen; and senior ministry officials.
