Mirpur:West Indies captain Roston Chase commended his team's disciplined bowling attack, with particular praise for the spinners, following their eight-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the West Indies spinners played a pivotal role by claiming 16 wickets in the match, double the number taken by Bangladesh's spinners. This decisive performance has given the visitors a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
Chase highlighted the contributions of left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican, applauding his consistent and confident leadership of the spin attack. Chase noted Warrican's long-standing role as a reliable craftsman who delivers whenever given the chance.
In addition to the spinners, Chase expressed satisfaction with the fast bowlers' efforts in containing Bangladesh's scoring through disciplined lines and lengths. He attributed the victory to restricting Bangladesh's first innings lead and taking four quick wickets in the second innings, which pressured the Bangladeshi batting lineup.
Bangladesh posted 272 in their first innings but managed only 142 in the second, setting a target of 170 for the West Indies. Chase considered the target achievable, as the pitch remained favorable for batting. He praised openers John Campbell and Brandon King for providing a solid start, which helped the West Indies complete the chase with ease.
Chase was particularly impressed by King's performance against the spin, noting his control and ability to adapt despite his preference for facing fast bowling. The captain also acknowledged the challenges posed by repeated interruptions from bad light and adverse weather, which affected the game's momentum.
