Rajshahi:Rajshahi district has emerged as the top performer in both pass rate and GPA-5 achievements among the eight districts under the Rajshahi Education Board in the recent Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination results.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the overall pass rate for the board has significantly decreased to 45.06 percent this year, indicating that more than half of the students failed the exams. Despite this, girls have outperformed boys in terms of achieving GPA-5.
The results were officially announced at 11 am by Professor Iffat Zereen, the Controller of Examinations of the Rajshahi Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. A total of 4,520 students achieved GPA-5, with 1,785 of them hailing from Rajshahi district, accounting for about 39.5 percent of all GPA-5 holders in the board.
Bogura district followed Rajshahi with 1,309 students securing GPA-5, while Pabna secured the third position with 550 students achieving GPA-5. In terms of pass rate, Rajshahi district also led with 55.33 percent of students passing the exams, followed by Bogura at 53.64 percent and Joypurhat at 41.67 percent.
Out of the 141,936 students registered for the HSC examination under the Rajshahi Education Board, 137,356 students appeared, and 61,894 passed, leaving 75,462 students failing the exams. In Rajshahi district alone, 28,086 students took the exams, with 15,540 passing.
The results revealed a gender disparity, with a pass rate of 53.03 percent for girls compared to 37.71 percent for boys. Among the GPA-5 achievers, 2,555 were girls and 1,965 were boys. The Controller of Examinations noted that 31 students were expelled for using unfair means during the exams.
In the division, all students passed in only nine colleges, while no students passed in 39 colleges. An analysis of past results shows a trend of declining pass rates from 97.29 percent in 2021 to 45.06 percent this year, marking the lowest rate since the auto-pass year during the Corona pandemic in 2020.
Professor Iffat Zereen attributed the lower pass rate to the strict adherence to marking based on students' performance in their answer scripts, with no additional marks awarded.
