Dhaka:Biman Bangladesh Airlines has established a four-member committee to investigate the technical glitch that delayed a flight carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his entourage from Tokyo to Dhaka by nearly five hours.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the committee will be led by Biman's chief of Planning and Scheduling and includes the chief engineer of Engineering Production and the deputy chief of Flight Safety. The manager of Legal Affairs will serve as the member secretary. The committee has the authority to include additional Biman officials if necessary.

The committee's mandate includes investigating the cause and nature of the technical problem that occurred before flight BG-377 was scheduled to take off from Narita International Airport. They will review the technical and operational measures taken to resolve the issue and ensure the aircraft's airworthiness.

The panel will also assess the impact of the incident, including the flight delay, additional operational costs, and inconvenience to passengers, as well as its effect on the national flag carrier's image. Furthermore, the responsibilities of those involved will be examined to determine if there was negligence or procedural lapses, and accountability will be established if failures are found.

The committee is tasked with making recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future and must submit its report to the Biman managing director and chief executive officer within four working days.

The flight, originally scheduled to depart Tokyo at 6 p.m. local time on Thursday, took off at 1055 p.m. after the technical issue was resolved by Biman's engineering team and Japanese technicians. It landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 248 a.m. on Friday.
