Mirpur:Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan's impressive performance, taking four wickets, helped Bangladesh secure a 27-run first-innings lead against West Indies on the third day of the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. West Indies were bowled out for 245, with their last four wickets falling for just 11 runs after lunch. Captain Roston Chase remained not out on 43.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Nayeem Hasan achieved a significant milestone by taking his 50th Test wicket, becoming the fastest Bangladeshi spinner to reach this mark in terms of balls bowled. His crucial dismissals included Shamar Joseph and Jomel Warrican in the same over, with Joseph being caught by wicketkeeper Litton Das and Warrican being trapped lbw. Nayeem also claimed the wicket of the last man, Jayden Seales, to conclude the innings.
Earlier in the day, West Indies resumed on 134 for four and made a steady start. Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored his third Test fifty before being caught at slip by Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto off Shoriful Islam's bowling for 56, leaving West Indies at 162. Justin Greaves and Roston Chase added a 51-run partnership for the sixth wicket, but Nayeem Hasan later trapped Greaves lbw for 46 just before lunch.
Litton Das returned as the wicketkeeper after missing the previous afternoon due to a bruised right elbow, with Jaker Ali having filled in as a substitute. The match was affected by bad light on the first two days, prompting an additional 15 minutes to be added to the second and third sessions on Friday if conditions allowed.
Bangladesh's first innings total of 272 was bolstered by Shadman Islam's century, while Jomel Warrican was the standout bowler for West Indies, taking five wickets for 53 runs.
