Rajshahi:Police have successfully apprehended a fugitive convict named Rakibul Islam Shanto, who was previously sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with an arms case in Rajshahi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rakibul Islam Shanto, the son of Md. Badsha from Dhadas village under Belpukur Police Station, was arrested following efforts by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP). The arrest was announced by the RMP on Friday.
A press release from RMP detailed that a case against Rakibul Islam was filed under the Arms Act at Bagha Police Station in 2022. Following the completion of trial proceedings, he was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. Despite the conviction, Rakibul Islam had evaded capture until recently.
Acting on secret information, Belpukur Police Station launched an operation leading to his arrest. Subsequently, Rakibul Islam Shanto has been sent to jail to serve his sentence.
