Dhaka:A dramatic batting collapse saw Bangladesh dismissed for 272 in their first innings against the West Indies on Day 2 of the first Test at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican spearheaded the demolition, taking 5-53, as Bangladesh lost seven wickets for just 59 runs in the morning session. The hosts began the day at 213-3, but their batting line-up faltered significantly.

Shadman Islam, who was just shy of a century, eventually reached the milestone with his third Test hundred, scoring 100 off 221 balls. However, his innings ended when Joshua Bishop, on his debut, successfully reviewed a decision to claim Shadman as his first Test wicket. Bishop then dismissed Towhid Hridoy, finishing his debut performance with figures of 2-61.

Hridoy, who had left the field the previous day due to a muscle cramp, returned post-Shadman’s dismissal but was unable to add to his score of 42. His exit left Bangladesh struggling at 221-5.

Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz attempted to stabilize the innings, but Warrican's sharp turn dismissed Miraz for 15. Shamar Joseph added to the woes with figures of 2-41, taking the wickets of Nayeem Hasan and Hasan Murad.

Warrican concluded his fourth five-wicket haul by taking the final wickets of Taijul Islam and Shoriful Islam. This left Bangladesh’s innings in disarray, losing the final five wickets for just 19 runs, with Liton Das remaining not out on 34.
