Dhaka:Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh Nina Padilla Cainglet today emphasized the potential for expanding tourism cooperation between the Philippines and Bangladesh. She highlighted the importance of fostering people-to-people connections, cultural exchanges, and sustainable tourism development during her address at the inauguration of the Bangladesh Travel and Tourism Fair (BTTF) 2026 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Agargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ambassador articulated how tourism presents significant opportunities to fortify the friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations, while also contributing to economic growth, employment, and cultural preservation. She noted that tourism allows individuals to experience the essence of different countries, cultures, traditions, and cuisines.
Ambassador Cainglet warmly invited Bangladeshi tourists to explore the Philippines, highlighting its natural beauty and cultural attractions. She described the Philippines as a beautiful country with hospitable people, assuring visitors of a welcoming experience that would make them feel at home. She also stressed that tourism is not only about leisure but plays a crucial role in supporting livelihoods and strengthening national economies, directly or indirectly supporting 10 percent of global economic activity and one in ten jobs.
Welcoming the fair's theme, "AI Powered Tourism, Sustainable Destination," Cainglet underlined the importance of sustainable tourism practices to preserve natural resources and cultural heritage for future generations. She emphasized the need for countries to collaborate in promoting tourism as a driver of economic opportunities and employment.
The ambassador appreciated the organizers' efforts to showcase traditional dances and cultural performances, noting that tourism aids in preserving and revitalizing cultural traditions. She acknowledged that tourism offers a platform to revive traditional music, dances, and cultural expressions that might otherwise fade away.
She extended her congratulations to the Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh (TOAB) for organizing the international tourism exhibition and expressed her hopes for the continued growth and success of Bangladesh's tourism industry. The event, inaugurated by Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, features participation from 16 countries and aims to promote Bangladesh's tourism potential, enhance international business networking, and encourage sustainable practices.
