Dhaka:A court in Dhaka has granted a seven-day remand for two Chinese women accused of smuggling 12 kilograms of gold paste concealed in their underwear.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals, identified as Chen Liyun and Mo Xiaoyu, were presented before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Repon Hossain. The police requested a 10-day remand for each suspect, but the court granted seven days.

The incident unfolded when the two women arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Dubai on Emirates flight EK586 at around 600 pm on October 28. They attempted to pass through the green channel without declaring any baggage. However, customs officials stopped them, and a search revealed soft, yellow-coloured paste concealed within their jeans and underwear, sewn into black fabric.

Further investigation confirmed the substance to be 24-carat gold. The First Information Report (FIR) indicated that approximately six kilograms of gold paste were found on each woman, totaling 12 kilograms. Jamil Sarwar Ahad, an assistant revenue officer (Preventive) at the Dhaka Customs House, filed a case against them under the Special Powers Act at the Airport Police Station.
