Dhaka:The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam has announced that goods will be confiscated, and legal action may be pursued against hawkers who illegally occupy roads and footpaths.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made during a media briefing amidst an eviction drive from Gulistan Zero Point to Dhaka Trade Center. Abdus Salam emphasized the DSCC's commitment to conducting eviction efforts to benefit city dwellers whenever roads and footpaths are unlawfully occupied.
The administrator highlighted that the DSCC has previously engaged in discussions, requests, and warnings. However, moving forward, they will seize goods and consider legal measures, including the arrest of offenders, if illegal stalls are established. He addressed concerns about the lack of rehabilitation for evicted hawkers, suggesting that a specified number could be permitted to operate in designated areas without hindering public movement.
Abdus Salam also urged the public to support efforts that align with the needs of Dhaka's citizens and the general populace, stressing the necessity of preserving Dhaka's streets and footpaths. During the eviction operations carried out at 1100 am and 330 pm, numerous illegal shops were dismantled, and goods were confiscated, effectively clearing the major roads and footpaths from illegal occupation. Pedestrians expressed relief and gratitude, encouraging the continuation of such initiatives.
